Mr. Johnson is a Partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and serves as Co-Chair of Archer’s Government Relations Practice. He is an active member of the firm’s Diversity and Hiring Committees. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Johnson served as the Chief Deputy City Solicitor of the Civil Rights Unit for the City of Philadelphia. In this position, he handled and oversaw the management of civil rights claims against the City and its employees. Mr. Johnson practiced with the City of Philadelphia’s Law Department from 1984 to 2006.
Mr. Johnson specializes in Government Relations and Litigation, with a focus on minority and women-owned small and medium-sized businesses. He represents a wide range of clients from closely- held and emerging growth companies, to governmental and quasi-governmental entities, to larger privately and publicly-held companies. With his deep level of experience, knowledge, insight, and understanding of City and State governmental entities, and the relationships among these entities, Mr. Johnson works with clients to best accomplish their objectives, and to provide his assistance navigating the landscape surrounding the various City and State agencies.
Mr. Johnson represents and counsels a number of clients, including real estate development companies, with regard to Government Affairs, with a focus on real estate matters. He advises clients regarding licenses and inspections, real estate acquisitions and development, zoning, real estate tax matters, real estate title issues and disputes, as well as litigation matters related to real estate. Mr. Johnson has extensive involvement in representing clients with regard to Rebuild Philadelphia and other similar complex real estate and land use development matters.
In the heavily regulated Cannabis Industry, Mr. Johnson provides counseling and assistance to minority and women-owned businesses engaged in matters relating to the cannabis sector, in whatever stage of development a business is in. Areas in which Mr. Johnson works with clients include real estate, licensing and regulatory compliance, lobbying, financing and banking, taxation, administrative law, and business services. He can help many types of businesses, including cultivators, manufacturers, transporters, distributors, researchers, testing labs, and retailers.
